Jewelry Cabinet

~ All my necklaces, bracelets and earrings... are kind of just thrown into 2 drawers.  They always get tangled and the earrings get separated (sigh).

~ I'm keeping my eye on this ~sweet~ little cabinet at the Antique store to turn into my Jewelry cabinet and hang in my bathroom.
Since the house (part of it) is over 100 years old,
the rooms are quite large,
so I have a rather LARGE master bathroom,
it even has a sit-down vanity.
 ♥_♥

~ The shelves of this cabinet are removable,
so I'll remove the top shelf and put in some hooks.
The bottom shelf will be for bracelets and earrings.

~ I might just leave it as it is... or replace the glass with mirror.
I probably won't paint it either... it's just the way I like it.
I'm watching and waiting for the price to go down.

The angle of the picture makes the
cabinet appear small but it is rather large.

Farmer's Harvesting

~ If you see that the farmer's are out with their tractors....
You better make sure your windows are CLOSED!

~ Otherwise, you will be dusting your whole house...
Floors, tables, furniture....EVERYTHING.

~ This was taken from my front porch yesterday....
luckily, I checked and ALL my windows were CLOSED.

My Old {New} Cedar Chest

~ Kevin and I were roaming Webb Antiques in Richmond, Indiana
one weekend and found an old cedar chest,
it was hidden under a bunch of other junk treasures.

~ It's a fun place to go because they also serve lunch.
We like to go and have lunch and splurge and have dessert.

~ We had been looking for a place to store our "blankies" that we use when we get a chill in the Winter or Summer (from AC).

~ This is the cute little chest we bought.

Before pictures

Click on any picture for closer view

All it needs is some TLC ♥

It took quite a bit of sanding,
this is when my arm really starting to hurt...
Maybe I should buy me an electric sander????

Here I have the chest sanded and patched...
ready for a coat of primer.

I love it white with the coat of primer but
my plans are to paint it red, distress it and
give it a home in our Patriotic room.

After pictures

Ta da.... finished product
{well almost}.

I'm still looking for an eagle or patriotic type
emblem to put on the front.

I'm in no hurry as I have to find the perfect emblem.
But... we don't have to wait to start using it.

Here is an up close picture of the finish,
if you click on the picture, you can see it even better.

Let's take a peak inside...
YES.... that's Kevin's blanket you see,
he is a Chicago Bears fan.

My blanket is out... laying on me... because I am cold today.

We refreshed the cedar inside by sanding with 180 grit sandpaper.
Just use a fine sandpaper to refresh the cedar inside.
You can do this every year.

This chest will last us for many years to come and will
help store our "blankies" out of sight when not in use.

The Tin Man Project

~ I'm collecting tin cans to build a tin man for my yard/garden.

~ He won't look EXACTLY like the tin man from
The Wizard of Oz... but he will have a funnel for his hat.

~ If you would like to build a tin man for your yard/garden,
here are the instructions I am going to use.

~ I'm having trouble finding sardine cans because I
don't know anyone that eats sardines. *_*

~ After I get my  tin man built,
I'll post a picture to share with you.

Grandma's Ugly Shoes

Grandma's Ugly Shoes
Author Unknown

When I was very little
All the Grandmas that I knew
Wore the very same old kind
Of ugly grandma shoes.

You know the kind I mean.
Clunky-heeled, black, lace-up kind.
They just looked so awful
That it weighed upon my mind,

For I knew when I grew old,
I'd have to wear those shoes.
I'd think of that from time to time
It seemed like such bad news.

I never was a rebel,
I wore saddle shoes to school,
And next came ballerinas
Then the sandals, pretty cool.

And then came spikes with pointed toes
Then platforms, very tall,
As each new fashion came along
I wore them... one and all.

But always in the distance,
Looming in my future, there....
Was that awful pair of ugly shoes,
The kind that Grandmas wear.

I eventually got married
And then became a Mom
Our kids grew up and left us,
And when their children came along,

I knew I was a Grandma
And the time was drawing near
When clunky, black, old lace-up shoes
Was what I'd have to wear.

How would I do my gardening
or take my morning hike?
I couldn't even think about
How I would ride my bike!

But fashions kept evolving
And one day I realized
That the shape of things to come
was changing, right before my eyes.

And now, when I go shopping
What I see fills me with glee
For in my jeans and Sketchers
I'm as comfy as can be.

And I look at all these little girls
And there upon their feet
Are clunky, black, old Grandma shoes,
And I really think that's neat.

No better way to start the day!

~ There is no better way to start the day than
having a fresh cup of brewed coffee {with hazelnut creamer}
and a slice of banana bread!

Yummy banana bread and coffee flavored
with hazelnut creamer,
yum, yum, yum....

Caffeine is my shepherd; I shall not doze.

It maketh me to wake in green pastures:
It leadeth me beyond the sleeping masses.

It restoreth my buzz:
It leadeth me in the paths of consciousness for its name's sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of addiction,
I will fear no Equal™:

For thou art with me; thy cream and thy sugar they comfort me.

Thou preparest a carafe before me in the presence of The Starbucks:
Thou anointest my day with pep; my mug runneth over.

Surely richness and taste shall follow me all the days of my life:
And I will dwell in the House of Mochas forever.

Meet the Little People in My Life - {Grandkids}

** Edited on January 23, 2011 to include the newest kid on the block!
see end of this post for "newest kid on the block"

~ I would like to BRAG on my Grandkids.

~ So far, I have 5 ... and there is one on the way {it's a boy}.

~ I was shocked when I heard I was going to be a Grandmother for the first time,
I felt I was TOOOOO young to be called "Grandma".
I cried in joy and I cried in fear...
being a Grandma meant you were old...
{didn't it?}

~ After it all sunk in, I was very excited and I decided I
was NOT going to be called "Grandma",
I was going to be called "Mimi".

~ Mimi sounds like a 'fun' and 'YOUNGER' word ...
and
I wanted my Grandkids to always have fun with Mimi
{well almost always}

click on pictures for closer view

I have a couple "Mimi" signs.

The oldest is
Braden

Braden Daniel...
Just recently, Braden went camping and did a little fishing.
Braden is JUST like his Father and loves to read books that are 4 inches thick,
really....I am NOT kidding!

He is VERY smart..... and likes to read encyclopedia's.

 Grace

Meet "Princess" Grace Elizabeth...(that is what I call her),
she has a great mixture of being a Tomboy...
but can also be a Princess at the same time.
She is the social "kid" in the family and loves to talk to everyone.

Emma

Emma Leigh....loves to draw and is very good at it,
she is a bit wet here after playing in Mimi's sprinkler.
Emma has the prettiest BLUE eyes.

Olivia

Ms. Olivia Moon
Sometimes, we just call her Moon.
She is developing quite a funny personality.
She is an only child {so far}
and loves to do what her cousins {Grace and Emma} do.
I think she is going to be somewhat tomboy-ish but with the perfect amount of feminism.

Hayden

Hayden Gene is the youngest so far.
He is "the dude" (as we call him).
We can see his personality developing every time we see him.
He is a clone of his Daddy for sure.
He will be having his first birthday in December!

You have met all my rug-rats Grandchildren.
They make me smile.

~ There is another Grandchild on the way....
we know it's a boy...
so we'll have 3 boys and 3 girls.... and
for now we will just call him
"Braden's Little Brother"!
**Now known as Asher Joseph

addition to our family born on January 17, 2011

Warning - a plan that did not work!

~ I   LOVE   ICE   CREAM ♥

~ I'm trying to change my eating habits and not give up all of my BAD habits.

~ My thought is (and it is a proven fact),
if you eat smaller portions, you will lose weight... right?

~ So I purchased some ice cream in single serving containers.

~ What a great idea huh?

~ Not so fast... notice how many containers are missing....

Oops.... 2 containers missing...
AND THEY WERE VERY GOOD!

Well... it was a good idea anyway... with good intentions.

Maybe it will catch on... and I'll only eat one container NEXT TIME.

Still Blooming

~ I'm loving the cooler temperatures (FINALLY).

~ Some of the leaves are starting to fall but several of my flowers are STILL BLOOMING.

~ We've already bought apples and carmel dip and are
enjoying them in the evenings after dinner.

~ Mmmmm... apples are always abundant in Fall...and they smell so delicous.

 ♥

~ Fall IS just around the corner.

~ My geraniums are doing better now...than they have all year...

click on any photo for closer view

I love geraniums, next year, I will have pink instead of red.
I love how the red color pops out against our yellow house though.

I love the deep vibrant purple of the clematis growing next to our garage,
I have plans next year to build or buy a white  lattice trellis
for the clematis to grow on.

Right now, I use a small green fencing.

click on picture to see the butterflies

Yesterday, I went out to get the mail and there were small butterflies all over my live-forevers.
I don't know what they are really called but that is the nickname for them,
they start blooming just about NOW.

I got these starts from my cousin last year.
I love free starts from perenials.

Perenials are maintenance FREE and come back year after year.

I'm getting ready to get several starts of the
"rose of sharon" bushes from the lady who cuts my hair.
They grow in shade or sun.  YAY ♥
She has every color you can think of.

I thought it was time to hang my Fall wreath.
So I dusted if off and hung it up.

I had to improvise (with a magnet and chain)
until I can get to the store to buy a new wreath hanger.
(mine broke as I was changing wreaths)

I also changed out my front porch Summer welcome sign to my Fall welcome sign.
I have 3, one for Summer, Fall and Christmas.
I need a few more (don't you think?)  (Giggling here).

Sweet Smell

~ There is absolutely nothing better than the sweet smell
of sun dried sheets fresh off the clothesline.

~  And what's more, this "solar drier" will also help me save energy!

~ It was time to change the sheets.
Instead of switching to my other set,
I just decided to wash the current sheets and put them back on the bed.

~ Usually, I can't hang sheets outside because it's so windy.
The wind just blows them right OFF the clothesline onto the ground.

~ We sometimes call our home "Windy Acres"....
as you can see, there is nothing to BLOCK
the West wind or the North or South wind :o)

Click on picture for closer view

It looks as though the sheet is dragging the ground but it isn't.

Now, I have to finish hanging the rest of the sheets....so I need to go.

It's so nice out and NOT windy,
maybe I will wash the mattress pad as well.
Oh that sweet, sweet smell.

Candy Jars...

~ I have been wanting a couple of candy jars for around the house.
I found 2 perfect jars at the thrift store for .99 cents each.
I ran them through the dishwasher and they are like brand new.

~ It was like God knew exactly what I wanted and led me to them.

~ Well, He does know what we want or need,
but He doesn't always give it to us does He?

~ God only gives us what is for our own good or for the good of someone else.

~ God must of thought I deserved to find exactly what I was looking for.

HOWEVER....

When you start buying the candy for the jars to match the room,
{Houston, we have a problem}

(click on any photo for closer view)

After dinner mints...
and oh how they match our guest room!

I usually see these at baby and/or
bridal showers but now I can see them in
my guest room and sneak one or two or three now and then.

The pastel colors are so perfect.
I ♥ them,
AND
not only are the pretty but they taste good too.

I love this candy jar because of the red handle on the lid,
it matches my kitchen colors and a couple
of other canisters I have but this is a smaller jar and I love the way it leans.
{cute size}.

This candy jar has candy corn in it... and
WAS HALF FULL.

It sits on the ledge that divides the kitchen
and the dining room IN FULL VIEW...
* * this could be trouble * *

I'm already thinking of the different holiday candies
I can put in here throughout the year.
◕ ‿ ◕

Thanks for stopping by....
if you were here,
I'd share my candy with you.

Humpty Dumpty Frumpy.....

~ You ever have a day where you feel Humpty Dumpty Frumpy?
That's me today!

I feel Humpty Dumpty Frumpy....

Isn't this a 'Frumpy' Humpty Dumpty?
I saw him sitting on a display at the antique store,
I couldn't resist taking his picture.

~ I know why it is I feel this way,
I haven't exercised in weeks.

~ It got so hot out...
I felt like I was going to melt when I did exercise!

~ AND I felt so much better when I DID exercise that my body is missing it.

This was me.... so I stopped exercising.
I just plain stopped.

~ But now... it's time to get back in the groove and stay in the groove.
~ I do best at walking... {not running} so I guess
I will get back into my groove of walking.
{working my way back up to at least 40 minutes a day}

~ No better time to start than today.

~ So I will see you later....
I'm hitting my country road and going on my walk and
will try to make it a daily habit again...
until the blustery Winter winds come and move me inside.

~ Guess I'm going to have to get me a treadmill soon because we all know....
what's around the corner!!!!

This is a snowed in car... not a pretty sight.
{Sigh}.... I know this stuff will be here soon....
but first let me get through FALL.

An old dresser made brand new!

~ I have completed another project on my long "to do" list.

~ I am very pleased with how beautiful it turned out.

~ I purchased this dresser for $20.00 and of course, I have a before photo.

(click on photos for closer view)

I looked past what it was and imagined what it could be

I do this with a lot of things I see.

Ta dah....

Remember the glass knobs I took off of my "Grandkid" shelf?

I recycled 4 of them {I have 2 left}
I only had to buy 3 new handles to match for the bottom drawers.
Found these at Lowes.

My picture quality isn't so great because if I used the flash,
it shined off of my glossy dresser and made a glare on the photo.

Did I mention that I primed and sanded and sanded and sanded????
All my hard work usually pays off.

I display my wedding bouquet in a cute rubber boot on the top.

Now, I am going to find a "favorite" blankie for each Grandkid
and will store it in these drawers.

When they visit, they will know where to go to get their
very own "blankie" to snuggle and watch movies or cartoons
and have popcorn with Mimi and Grandpa.

Feels like a new shelf

~ Remember these?  I showed them to you some time ago.
With some help from my husband, I was able to shorten the screws that are permanently a part of these knobs.

He used a special tool and his "manly " strength.  ☺

(click on pictures for better viewing)

Ceramic drawer knobs I purchased from Hobby Lobby at 50% off.
That means they were $1.99 each.

Here is a shelf hanging in my dining room...
I got it from "Take Root" in old downtown Greenwood.
It's for pictures ... of my grandkids!
I call it my "grandkid" shelf.

Here is a closer look at the knobs currently on the shelf!

They are glass.

I am removing them and replacing them with my new ceramic knobs.
Don't worry... I won't waste them.

I already have a new home for them...
(will show you in another post).

Here is the shelf now.
I'm still working on getting updated pictures.

I have several picture frames with NO pictures.
The shiny ones are pewter...
I got those ALL of them at the thrift store....
but look closer at the "new knobs".

(click on picture for better viewing)

I ♥  it.

Now... I will collect some items to hang on the knobs....
and get some updated pictures of the grandkids....
and get new pictures of the new grandbaby {in the oven}
when HE gets here!

I love Wicker....

~ So the other day, I passed a garage sale {again}...
could not resist stopping {again}.

What bargain might be waiting for me?
I found a few...the mirror, the birdhouse...
but this is one... I just finished working on.

~ Of course, there is a "BEFORE" picture.
This plant stand is in excellent shape as far as sturdiness....
so some primer and paint will make it all new again ♥

(click on photos for closer views)

~ BEFORE ~
This cute but neglected plant stand was only $1.00
The paint is peeling and is in need of some TLC....
Which is exactly what I gave it.

~ AFTER ~
I primed and painted the plant stand and placed it on my porch.
It only has a short time to be outside this year.

I took my hanging basket and placed it in the plant stand just to
see what it look like...

but next year...
it will be a home for a nice fern.

~ Today is Thursday, a lot of garage sales happen on Thursdays....
I don't know why, lots of people are at work on Thursdays!

I am heading out to visit a few sales.
I only allow myself $20 unless I find a real bargain...
then I usually will write a check... {if they allow}
or write a check to hold {my bargain} and come back later with cash.

Soon, all the yard and garage sales will be ending
{boo hoo}...what will I do?
Perhaps, I might just have to get a job soon.

Daydreams and Worries

~ I find myself at times just sitting and thinking.... or perhaps, it's really called 'daydreaming'.  So many thoughts just rush through my mind.  Sometimes, I'm critical of myself, sometimes, I'm thinking of projects around home, sometimes I'm thinking... I should be working instead of enjoying the Summer off...

~ Do you do that too?  Just sit and think and daydream.....?

~ I think this would be the perfect place to lay and daydream... don't you?

It just looks so comfy and dreamy ♥

~ Sometimes I like to sit here and daydream.....

Thinking, pondering, swinging.... on a breezy Summer evening ♥

~ Sometimes, in between all those daydreams, I start to worry... I worry about my Dad's health most of all... my kids and grandkids, not currently having a job!

~ But then.... I tell myself to take each day... one day at a time, sometimes, one hour at a time and many times... 1 minute at a time...and just breathe!

~ But then, just as I am feeling lost, worried and down.... first thing I do is remember "The Knots Prayer".

The Knots Prayer

Dear God,

Please untie the knots
that are in my mind,
my heart and my life.

Remove the have nots,
the can nots and the do nots
that I have in my mind.

Erase the will nots,
may nots, and
might nots that find
a home in my heart.

Release me from the could nots,
would nots and
should nots that obstruct my life.

And most of all, dear God,
I ask that you remove from my mind
my heart and my life all of the am nots
that I have allowed to hold me back,
especially the thought
that I am not good enough.

Amen.

{Anonymous}

~ After reading and thinking of this prayer, I again...remember that God is in control of everything and that I need not worry.

~ I know without a doubt in my life, I am doing the best I can for everyone that crosses my path.  I am caring, thoughtful and genuine. I am ME.

~ Don't let anyone tell you that you have to be a certain way,
be unique, be what YOU feel.

 Today you are you,
that is truer than true...
there is no one alive who is YOUER than YOU
 {Dr. Suess}.
